All You Need to Know About Hurghada, Egypt

Renowned for its pristine quality of service and style, and as an adobe for tourists, Hurghada has a preceding reputation of quality versus quantity.

Hurghada, also known as 'Al Ghardagah' by locals, is an Egyptian city and a popular tourist city.

Due to the fact that Hurghada is situated along the shores of the Red Sea, almost all developments are inevitably beachfront properties.

Hurghada lies on a promontory projecting into the sea, some 380 km to the south-east of Cairo. Once an isolated fishing village, Hurghada emerged as a key site early in the 20th century. From the 1980s, the city has expanded and flourished, and is now the leading resort along the Red Sea Coast.

Founded in the early 20th Century, Hurghada has been on a continuous growth spiral, so much so that Hurghada is now the leading resort destination along the Red Sea.

Presently, this former fisherman's village hosts 40 000 inhabitants. Divided into three main parts, namely: El Dahar (the old district, downtown); Sekalla (the modern district) and El Korra Road (the most modern district), Hurghada has plenty to offer its visitors and residents. For example: Sekalla is where one would find relatively modest Hotel quarters, whereas El Dahar is where one would find the town's largest bazaar, post office and bus station.

Property markets indicate that it is possible to fetch a luxury beachfront studio apartment in Hurghada for as little as £15 000, while a fully furnished turn-key apartment will have you looking at £20 000.

Stretching approximately 40km along the Red Sea coastline and not reaching too far into the desert, Hurghada is perfectly situated to enable a guarantee of luxurious relaxation at its best.

Many of Hurghada's beach resorts are all-inclusive, self-contained entities that satisfy the visitor's every need and desire. Amenities include discos, bars, playgrounds, swimming pools and small theatres.

Hurghada has its own international airport that receives many charter flights every day. Hurghada is well connected to Cairo and Luxor by bus. There are also ferries to and from the Sinai Peninsula.

Minibuses seat up to a dozen people, and are probably the cheapest means of intra-city travel.

Another option is car rental. Several international rental companies are represented in Hurghada.

Within Hurghada, public transport is good. Collective service taxis operate on a wide variety of routes. They are quicker than buses, and can depart (and arrive) at any given time.

Prices are on the increase, daily - as new developments are re-priced, on average, every quarter. The amounts of these quarterly-increases vary according to the exact locality of the development and the apartment position within the complex, but a ten per cent increase is the average quarter-hike for the best located development on the market.

Hurghada is known for its spectacular landscape, rich in canyons and mountains. The desert safari is a wonderful means of experiencing this colourful terrain. Several operators in Hurghada arrange such safaris, most of which last between 1 and 5 days. Participants may select from camels, horses, quads and 4x4 vehicles.

Hurghada Aquarium and Museum boasts a wide selection of Red Sea plants and animals. It is open from 8am to 8pm.
Remaining a popular holiday destination for residents of Cairo, the Delta and Upper Egypt, as well as gaining popularity as a package holiday destination for many European tourists (i.e. Russians, Germans, etc), Hurghada is on the rise in leaps and bounds.

Giftun Island provides a superb day outing for the whole family. Besides excellent snorkeling, one has the opportunity to view the Red Sea underworld from a submarine. The island is well populated with shops and boutiques, and there are also some interesting historical sites such as the Roman porphyry quarry remains.

El Gouna lies 20 km to the north of Hurghada. A purpose built leisure resort, it boasts a 10 km stretch of beachfront. Its water activity opportunities are excellent, and include facilities for water skiing, parasailing, snorkeling and windsurfing. For those who favour land-based activity, the 18-hole USPGA Golf Course offers a world-class game.

Safaga is slightly south of Hurghada. This port town comprises several tourist villages specializing in diving holidays, and is complete with outstanding hotels and seafood restaurants. The town's clean sandy beaches and stiff sea breezes make it an ideal location for windsurfing.

Other nearby islands is Shaab el-Erg, Shaab Abu Ramada, Abu Minquar, Careless Reef and Shadwan Island. All offer excellent swimming and diving conditions.

Sharm El Naga is a village located 40 km south of Hurghada. Its beach boasts the most beautiful reef cliff in the region.
The Hurghada Casino, at the Hurghada International Resort and Casino, provides an alternative night on the town. Games on offer include Black Jack, Poker, Roulette and slot machines.

Hurghada is a true party town. The night clubs are concentrated along the same main street as the hotels and, although they attract mostly young people, there is entertainment enough for everyone.

I Need Business Now! 5 Marketing Strategies With Immediate Payoff For Landscape Designers

It seems like the worse the economy is, the more marketing advice I hear thrown around. I'll spare you the long winded lecture explaining that you should have been marketing your landscape design business just as much when times were good as when they are bad.

Instead, I'll focus on five marketing strategies that landscape designers can implement that meet two specific criteria: First, these strategies can generate more business immediately, and second, each can be implemented at very little cost. I understand that no one wants to hear about long term marketing strategies that come with a large investment up front. Here we go...

Seek Free Publicity

Getting free publicity is easier than you may think. Our local press and media are hungry for positive stories right now. Chances are you are sitting on a unique story right now that someone would like to write about. The mistake that most landscape designers make is that they wait for the media to contact them. Now is not the time to wait around, you need to approach the media with your story first. Here are some potential story ideas:

· Unique landscape design projects you have recently completed.

· A unique design feature you have implemented such as a system to re-use storm water on site.

· Problem/Solution-how did you solve a difficult problem on site with a creative solution?

· Landscape design awards and certifications you and your employees have earned

I have found the best way to get publicity is by sending well written press releases. Sending a press release via fax is most appropriate. If you need to include photos, then postal mail is the best way to send a release, not via broadcast email unless you have permission. I have also had success posting press releases online using free services such as PitchEngine.com.

The benefits of free publicity are many, but most importantly you will be positioned as an expert in the eyes of homeowners, local business leaders and your peers.

Networking

For me personally, networking is one of those "ugly" words that conjures up thoughts of traditional salesmen in lousy suits and fake smiles. That said, You Can not minimize the powerful effect that networking can have on your landscape design business. Not only can strategic networking bring about immediate results, it also leads to long term business success in the form of collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships.

There is no better time than right now to develop a comprehensive networking strategy. Take a look around you, are there other landscape industry professionals you can collaborate with? I know of many landscape designers who partner with landscape contractors, and vice versa. Do you know of other allied professionals you could refer, and receive referrals from? Remember, we're all in this same economic situation together.

I also highly recommend joining networking groups such as your local chamber of commerce and referral groups such as BNI (Business Networking International). Less work means more time for networking right? So get out and meet some new people. This almost always leads to immediate business.

E-Newsletters

Most of you by now are probably familiar with e-newsletters, or e-zines. You have probably had many delivered to your inbox, with or without your permission. Permission-based email marketing is an easy and inexpensive way to stay in contact with past clients and your other business contacts. If you have done a good job of collecting contact information from past clients and others, now is the time to develop an e-newsletter.

Monthly newsletters are the most succesfull, but if you cannot consistently produce a monthly newsletter then consider a quarterly mailing. In my experience cost typically ranges from $15 to $30 per month for a service that enables you to design your newsletter, maintain your email list, send the newsletter and give you detailed reports. I have used and recommend ConstantContact.com as well as AWeber.com.

The key to producing a quality e-newsletter is to provide valuable content to your readers. Sure, you can write about current landscape design projects and the latest happenings in your business, but make sure you are providing helpful and useful information as well.

Pay Per Click Advertising

If you hesitate to spend big bucks on traditional print advertising, then consider advertising online in the form of "Pay Per Click" advertising. Google is the predominant player in PPC advertising, but Yahoo also offers a service. With PPC, you have direct control over how much you want to spend. And unlike traditional print advertising, there is no time lapse between when your ads run like with monthly magazines.

A somewhat new player in the game of pay per click advertising is the social networking site Facebook. When advertising on Facebook, you actually have the option to select very specific demographic groups you want your ad to appear in front of. Because ppc on Facebook is relatively new, there will be less competition if you get in the game now. Like with anything new, I suggest doing your research before jumping into pay per click advertising.

Co-op Marketing

Finally, think about ways you could collaborate with your landscape industry peers and other allied professionals. Co-op marketing and advertising is less expensive when two parties split the costs. Not only that, but you can build credibility when you link your landscape design company with another successfull company.

I know of landscape designers and landscape contractors who have advertised together, splitting the cost and the leads generated. The best example of co-op marketing that I have seen in our industry is when like-minded companies put on workshops together. Garden centers and nurseries can host workshops in which they invite landscape designers and contractors to present their expertise. This is a win-win for each.

Party Time - 5 Tips to Staying on Your Diet at Social Gatherings

Who doesn't love a party? I'll be the first one to admit, I love a party and everything that goes with it. Socializing with friends over great food and drinks is my idea of a perfect evening. The only problem is that parties tend to contribute to overeating, overdrinking and overindulging in general. For those trying to lose weight and those trying to maintain, too many parties can be bad news for the healthy regimen. Here are some tips on how to approach social functions while still remaining in control of your daily calorie count.

1. Eat Before You Go. This tip is one of the easiest ways to stay out of trouble when it comes to party food and your waistline. Party food tends to be yummy to the taste buds but doesn't bode well for your figure. You Can forego the unhealthy apps and only have a glass of wine or two - provided your daily calorie count allows for it. Another idea is to eat the bulk of your calories from a healthy at home meal. Once you get to the party, snack on veggies or only have a small piece of dessert. This will allow you to join in on the festivities without getting out of control.

2. Start With Protein. Instead of reaching for the chips and dip, go for good sources of protein to start with. Try any appetizers such as smoked salmon, chicken satays, seared ahi tuna and even cheeses before you go for the carbs. Starting with protein will help to delay the chemical reaction that occurs in the body when we start with carbohydrates. This reaction leads to most people wanting more food and more carbohydrates and leads to uncontrollable eating.

3. Alternate Your Drinks. Alternating alcoholic beverages with water can help lower the amount of caloric beverages you take in. Consuming liquid calories is one of the easiest ways to add calories without realizing it. Generally, we don't feel full after drinking approximately 300 calories yet we would feel as if we ate 300 calories should those calories have come from food we had to chew. Stick to lower calorie alcoholic beverages such as wine and light beers and make sure to sip slowly and alternate with good old h2o. This rule would apply to non-alcoholic drinks that have calories such as punch, soda and juices as well.

4. Use Smaller Plates. Keeping portions under control with food can be easily achieved by using smaller dinnerware. Pick smaller plates for food and cut the amount you eat by almost half. Trick your eyes by picking up a small, appetizer size plate and loading it up with healthy food. You'll feel like you're getting a lot by loading the plate up which can make you happy mentally. Don't forget to eat slowly. This will help Your Brain recognize how much food you are taking in and let you know when you are full. Slow eating off of your small plate will also make you feel like you're eating more than you think.

5. Pick a Smaller Glass. When indulging in alcoholic beverages or caloric beverages, pick a smaller glass to drink out of. Big bulb wine glasses are gorgeous but we tend to want to fill them up turning a 6 ounce glass of wine into a 12 ounce glass of wine and doubling the calories. Use a smaller glass for wine, cocktails or punch and fill it up. Both your taste buds and your mind will be satiated. Remember to sip slowly so you can enjoy your drink as well as make it last a little longer.
