Chinese Food Restaurant Review-Tasters Wok Lynnwood, WA, Great Food, Bad Service
One of my wife's friends got engaged about a month ago. We had already met him prior to this. This dinner was for another of our good friends to meet him. Of course, she didn't show up. Dinner was at our friends fiancé's favorite restaurant, Taster's Wok, a Chinese Restaurant on Highway 99 in Lynnwood, Washington. So here is my review.
We had about a 10 minute wait when we first arrived. Not bad at all being it's Saturday Night around 7pm. We were seated given menu's and asked if we would like something to drink. I looked at the beer selection and seen that they have Shocktop, a beer I have come to really enjoy recently. I have never seen it served at any restaurant that i have been to. I order one. At first the waitress didn't know what I was talking about. I show her on the menu. She said ok and left to get our drinks. Less than a minute later she is back. They don't have any Shocktop left. So Bud Light it was. Luckily they had that, if they didn't I would've got up and left.
We pondered the menu for a few and decided on some appetizers. When she came back with our drinks we ordered our appetizers. I decided on the Calamari. The waitress informed us that the Calamari would take a few minutes longer. I had no problem with that. Within what seemed like minutes, she was back with our appetizers, including the Calamari.
The calamari was delicious. Very light, crisp breading on the outside, not to chewy inside. By far the best I've ever had. The sauce it came with was equally delicious. I should have asked what it was. My wife ordered egg rolls. She was scared to try squid. I practically had to force her to try it. She has this face she makes when she don't like something. No face this time. I actually saw surprise in her face, surprise that she actually liked it.
So we finished the appetizers, but it was about 10 minutes before our table was cleared and we were asked if we were ready to order. When we were eventually asked what we would like, I decided on the house chow mien. Chow mien with beef, chicken and prawns.
After 20 minutes of waiting the waitress came out and said that they were just waiting on plates. Kind of different? I have never seen a restaurant run out of plates. I believed it was impossible. So five or six minutes later plates were finally set in front of us. We were expecting food a minute or two later. Right. Ten minutes later I inquired about the food, I was told it'll be out in a few minutes. About ten minutes after that the food was finally set in front of us.
My wife ordered the lemon chicken, and was asked if she would like steamed rice with it. Doesn't steamed rice usually come with a dish like that? She said yes. Thirty seconds later someone came back with rice, thirty seconds after that another person brought out a dish of rice. So we definitely had enough rice.
Then the food. The chow mien looked and smelled excellent. After all the waiting I was ready to dig in. The chow mien was definitely as delicious as it looked and smelled. For sure the best chow mien I'd ever had. That is two of the best dishes I'd ever had in one meal. Enough to make up for the slow service? Maybe.
We finished dinner and as soon as the waitress walked by, my wife's friends fiancé asked for the check. We were definitely ready to leave. Ten minutes later and we still had not received the check. When she walked by again, we again inquired about the check. She said that they were still working on it. What were they doing? Chiseling it out of a stone tablet? About five to ten minutes after that the check finally came out.
My wife actually asked the question, how much of a tip should I leave? Are you kidding? I was half tempted to give the waitress five bucks and ask her to give it to the cook. In the end we left nothing for a tip. We were there for over two hours, most of that time we spent not eating. I figure, drinks, appetizer, main course, and maybe dessert, which we didn't have, you shouldn't be in a restaurant for more than an hour or an hour and a half. Kinda pushing it with an hour and a half.
So great food, slow service. Will I return? I probably won't go out of my way, but eventually I'll go back. Maybe it was a one time occurrence? Hopefully. Thinking about that calamari, yeah I'll give it another shot. I'll let you know how it goes.
