Back Pain And The Cause Of Compromised Cells And Tissue
Back ache manifests itself first of all as lower back pain and then moves up to manifest as upper back pain and neck pain. It also moves down the legs, manifesting first of all as sacral pain then as hip pain and finally knee pain.
The number one enemy of cells and tissue is Acidity. Please note that this is not the acidity in the stomach, which is required to digest complex proteins, but the acidity levels of the fluids in the body. These fluids should be neutral. Acidity hugely affects the cells and tissue and their function.
Acid and alkaline levels are measured on a pH scale. pH stands for Potential of Hydrogen and is a rating system. It charts the Acid to Alkaline ratio between positively charged ions (acid forming) and negatively charged ions (alkaline forming). pH is measured on a scale of 0 to 14. 7on the scale represents neutral, being neither acid nor alkaline. The scale goes progressively more acid toward 0 and progressively more alkaline toward 14.
The body also has a pH value. A healthy body has an operating pH range of between 6 and 7.5. However the closer to 7 the ph is maintained the better the body functions. Urinary pH fluctuates between 6.0 and 6.5 in the morning and between 6.5 and 7.0 in the evening. Saliva fluctuates between 6.5 and 7.5 all day while blood remains from 7.3 to 7.4.
Proteins require an acid environment in which to break down. Carbohydrates require an alkaline environment I which to break down. When proteins OR Carbohydrates are detected in the mouth, certain chemicals -- one component part of either an acid or alkaline compound -- are excreted into the mouth and blended with the saliva and the food. When the chewed mass is swallowed, these chemicals stimulate some 50,000 minute glands in the stomach into releasing the other component parts of the chemical compound that is ultimately either acid or alkaline.
When Proteins and Carbohydrates are mixed in one meal, the body produces both acid and alkaline. Alkaline neutralizes acid, this we know from high school science. In this environment, neither the proteins nor the carbohydrates get digested. So the resultant mass goes rancid or ferments and putrefies in the gut, creating toxins which are absorbed into the bloodstream in the same way that nutrients would be. Such toxins create an acidic environment in the body fluids. These acids and toxins are not easily eliminated by the body.
The body is equipped to handle and eliminate the natural acids within the fluids of the body which are byproducts in the production of energy and the rebuilding of cells.
The fluids constitute roughly 60 percent of the body weight. The remaining 40 percent, being cells, tissue and bone, are affected by and attacked by the acids. After long periods in this environment, cells and tissue are damaged and thereafter cannot function well.
A healthy body does, however, holds adequate alkaline in reserve for emergencies, to maintain the ph balance as necessary, when acidic conditions threaten. But the body cannot maintain this for long periods of time. It is an emergency arrangement. Once the alkaline is depleted, the body is forced to draw minerals from vital organs and bone to neutralize and remove the acids. Such vital nutrients include calcium, potassium, magnesium and sodium. This naturally has an adverse effect on the cells and tissues.
A prolonged acidosis causes accelerated free radical damage. Free radical damage, of course, is severe damage to cells. This damage is responsible for a wide range of diseases and conditions from hair loss to, ultimately, cancer. However we are dealing with back pain so I'll continue along that tack.
The spinal column consists of vertebra, separated by inter-vertebral discs, bound together by and encapsulated in ligaments and attached to muscles for animation and balance. These are all made up of cells and tissues. In a healthy body the muscles and ligaments all work in tight unison. When the cells and tissues are damaged, they can not.
When the cells and tissue become damaged, the entire structure becomes faulty. The muscles and ligaments don't perform their function efficiently. They dont hold the spine in place effectively. When you sit or lie awkwardly or strain in an un-natural position, the muscles and ligaments cant do their job of holding everything together and something has got to give.
This is why, more often than not, a visit to the chiropractor eventually becomes a repetitive thing. The Chiropractor does a fantastic job of straightening everything out perfectly but the body is not in good enough condition to keep it that way.
So, we as individuals are the cause of our own back pain through autotoxification. From this one can see the importance of rehabilitating the cells and tissues of the body.
