A 21-year-old Mexican national in the country illegally was arrested after a gas station clerk reported he destroyed a merchandise rack and cursed at him because he wouldn’t sell him cigarettes and beer without ID to verify his age and called the clerk racist
Jose Lopez is charged with disorderly conduct with abusive language and criminal mischief.
Seymour City Police Lt. Tony Williams gave the following account of the incident leading to his arrest:
On Monday just after noon, Lopez tried to buy cigarettes & beer at the Shell gas station a but the clerk wouldn’t sell them to him because he didn’t have identification.
Lopez walked out to his car and returned with ID that lacked a photo. When the clerk still refused to sell Lopez cigarettes and beer,Lopez started screaming obscenities and knocked over a merchandise rack near the cash register that broke and threaten to call the ACUL
The clerk then called police, who arrsted Lopez.
