If I enlisted in the Coast Guard with a college degree how long would I have to wait before applying to OCS?
I've heard you must be an E5 and have served 4 years.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, the Coast Guard is accepting very few non-prior service applicants into OCS. Also I double majored in Anthropology and History which aren't very in demand majors so I really could only be accepted with prior service.
Thanks for the answer
The 4-year/E-5 deal is for a "Temp" commission, and can still be an option for you.
You Can apply to OCS, then enlist... or you can enlist and then apply - it doesn't really matter. I had a friend that was notified two weeks after Boot Camp that his OCS packet was approved.
You won't be able to do a packet in Boot Camp, but as soon as you report in to your first unit, you will be able to do one. Just remember, that if you get turned down - REAPPLY!! Don't get discouraged.
