Top Three Things Too Know When Travelling Through South America
Travelling is by far and away one of the greatest highlights of our lives on earth. There is an unidentifiable joy that comes from leaving your homeland and familiarity to venture into the land of another. The "rush" one gets from seeing new sites, tasting new cuisines, listening to new languages, and experiencing new cultures is a high that is unmatched by any other drug or experience on planet earth. However, with that said, travelling can be full of pitfalls that can make your experiences challenging and or downright dangerous. Below you will find three key points to keep in mind when travelling abroad, more specifically in South America.
1. Relax and don't try to rush anything. Americans, Europeans and a few other countries around the globe are known for efficiency - Latin America is NOT!!! Trust me, if I could emphasize this more, I would. Buses don't run, traffic is a nightmare, no one acts if anything is urgent (unless they are driving), and overall the style of living is very "tranquilo" - A Spanish word meaning tranquil. Thus, if you are an foreigner that is use to buses leaving on time, waiters actually caring about good service, and ordered driving, than Latin America may be a difficult place to travel especially if you are a "planer". When you are travelling in Latin America, relax, take it easy, and enjoy the chaos. Instead of complaining about the bus being two hours late, buy a beer, sit back and laugh at the chaos and inefficiency. It is actually quite amusing. REMEMBER TO RELAX AND DON'T OVER PLAN.
2. Bring a Camera. Not only is the inefficiency serve as good entertainment, it will give you a good time to break out the camera. Petty theft is common, thus don't make it obvious that you are caring a camera. (I often hide my camera in a koozie (this also serves well for keeping my beer cold), it is a little trick I use to not call to much attention to the camera when it is sitting out.) Snap a lot of photos because as you know for every ten you take, you will actually like one. TRUST ME - BRING A CAMERA, LATIN AMERICA IS A PLACE YOU WANT TO REMEMBER WITH PHOTOGRAPHY.
3. Talk to someone who has been before you.

Latin American Countries don't change very much, thus, if you talk to someone who has been within in the past five years, than there is a pretty good chance, they know what they are talking about. Ask them questions like, where should I go, where should I not go, if you had more time, where would you have stayed longer, is there any other advice that you think I would find useful?
